Connect your own email sending (Resend)

2 min read · Updated 2026-10-19

Every email your clients get — agreement copies, marketplace sign-ins, your automations, your Inbox messages — goes out from your own business address through your own Resend account. Resend is an email-sending service; the free plan is enough to start. Until it's connected, emails to your own clients are held.

Before you start

You need a domain you own (the one your site is on is ideal) and access to wherever that domain's DNS is managed.

Connect it, step by step

Go to Account → Integrations and find Email (Resend). The guide on that card walks you through five steps and ticks each one as it's done.

  1. Make a free Resend account at resend.com.
  2. Add your domain in Resend. In Resend, open Domains, then Add Domain, and type your domain. The guide suggests one based on your site or From email.
  3. Add Resend's records where your domain's DNS is managed. Resend shows a few records (TXT and MX). Add each one in the same place you added your site's records, then press Verify DNS Records on the domain in Resend. It can take a few minutes to a few hours.
  4. Create an API key in Resend. Open API Keys, then Create API Key. Pick Full access so we can check your domain for you. (Sending access also works, but then only the test email can confirm it.) Copy the key — it starts with re_ and is shown only once.
  5. Paste it here. Enter your From email (what clients see, for example hello at your domain), your From name, and the Resend API key. Click Save and check.

Then Send yourself a test. Click Send me a test. When Resend accepts it, the card shows Connected and the badge reads Verified.

After it's connected

  • Automations shows "Sending from" your address instead of the Paused warning.
  • Inbox lets you send to your own clients.
  • Optionally tick Auto-reply to new leads on the same card and write a short subject and message.

If something isn't working

  • Badge says Unverified: your key is saved but the test hasn't gone through. Check that the domain shows as verified in Resend, then send the test again.
  • Records not verifying: DNS can take hours. Make sure each record was added exactly as shown, on the right domain.
  • Wrong key type: a Sending-access key works, but the guide can't tick the domain steps for you. The test email is what proves it.
  • Use Ask Resend again on the card to refresh the status.

Good to know

  • Messages written while your email wasn't connected are marked Not sent in your Inbox. They aren't sent later on their own — send them again once you're connected.
  • After you save your API key, only its last four characters are shown back on the page.
  • Why this is required: see Why client email comes from your own domain.
